Volley’s engineering ecosystem is wide ranging: complex robotics systems that move cars, bay stations that measure vehicle dimensions with 3D lidar scanners, algorithmic multi-agent planning software, and frontend user applications for mobile and web. Our infrastructure is deployed primarily on-premise, but also includes services on AWS, iOs/Android, IoT devices, and AGV’s (robots).

We are looking for a Sr. Software Developer Engineer in Test (SDET) with solid experience in setting up integrated deployment pipelines and automated testing infrastructure from ground up. The scope of this position includes strong collaboration with SRE/DevOps, software, and hardware teams to streamline our deployment pipelines and assist in extending our SW test automation and hardware in-the-loop testing. This is primarily a hands-on coding role, but you will be the technical lead for a small team of test engineers or contractors and will largely be responsible for defining tooling and architecture to meet your objective.

Responsibilities:

  • Define and develop unit, integration, and end-to-end testing for various components of the garage system (e.g. vehicle guidance, bay sensing) and applications for iOS, Android, and web.
  • Work with SRE to setup dev/test/stage environments, deployment pipelines, and streamline development: CI/CD, source code and artifact management, tagging and rollback, monitoring, et al.
  • Assist in SW releases and test/improve our deployment pipeline for frictionless garage system updates. Help communication of release notes.
    Vet and recommend tooling, document test plans, and maintain testing architecture for this purpose. Drive adoption of these tools through collaboration with all engineering teams.
  • A strong attention to details like enforcing contracts between applications and micro services (e.g., API testing).
    Contribute to documentation and troubleshooting guides that support an engineering wide on-call rotation (e.g., PagerDuty, Slack alerting, et al)
  • Work with Operations team to triage and help deal with field issues as they arise.

Basic Qualifications:

  • At least 4-5 years building and supporting production CI/CD pipelines.
  • Writes testing modules and unit tests with proficiency and minimal guidance. Designs with guidance/feedback and codes independently.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipeline tools like: Jenkins, CircleCI, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, et al.
  • Familiarity with Pytest, unittest, gtest, Selenium, Robot, Appium or similar frameworks
  • xperience developing automated test fixtures and systems
  • Working knowledge of Python and C/C++
  • Strong experience with Git, Docker, Unix/Linux, CLI, bash scripting.
  • Basic working knowledge of Kubernetes, Ansible, Terraform preferred
  • Experience with mobile application testing preferred.
  • Excitement to learn new technologies in any area of the stack
  • Team player, passionate about delivering a seamless user experience, and doing what it takes to deliver results
  • Creative debugging and problem-solving skills

Nice to have:

  • BS (MS preferred) in CS/ME/EE or similar STEM discipline
  • Any experience with robotics, ROS2, embedded software, or hardware industries considered advantageous.
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools like Datadog, New Relic, Grafana, Prometheus

This is a non-remote position with offices based in South San Francisco, CA
The target base salary range for this position is $125,000 - 170,000 annually.
